Account & Privacy

How to sign in to KidneyPal, what data the app stores and where, how to sign out, and how to permanently delete your account and all of your data.

On this page

Your KidneyPal account keeps your diary, meals, and recipes safe and synced. This page explains how sign-in works, what we store, and how to delete everything if you ever want to.

Signing In

KidneyPal supports three ways to sign in:

  • Email & password — create an account with your email and a password (at least 6 characters). There’s a Forgot your password? link on the sign-in screen if you ever need a reset email.
  • Continue with Google — sign in with your Google account
  • Continue with Apple — sign in with your Apple Account (iPhone and iPad only)

Tip: Stick with the same sign-in method each time so you always land in the same account. And if you bought Pro on our website, sign in with the same email you used at purchase — see Subscription & Billing.

What KidneyPal Stores

To make the app work, KidneyPal stores the data you create:

  • Your profile — your kidney condition, weight, other health conditions, diet preferences, and the nutrient limits calculated from them
  • Meals and photos — your scanned meals, their photos, and the AI analysis
  • Diary entries — meals, fluids, and daily notes
  • Recipes — recipes you import, create, or save, plus your favorites
  • Weight history — your logged weights

Where Your Data Lives

Your data is stored securely in the cloud on Google Firebase, the same infrastructure used by many major apps. Meal photos are private to your account — they’re not shared or visible to other users. Because your data lives in your account, you can sign in on a new phone and everything comes with you.

For the full details, read our Privacy Policy.

Language, Units, and Preferences

Language, theme, and weight/volume units are all changed in the app’s settings — see the Settings guide.

Signing Out

Go to Settings → Sign Out and confirm. Signing out doesn’t delete anything — your data is waiting when you sign back in.

Deleting Your Account

If you want to leave KidneyPal entirely, you can delete your account and all of your data from inside the app:

  1. Go to Settings → Delete Account
  2. Confirm when asked: “Are you sure you want to delete your account? This action cannot be undone.”

Deletion removes everything tied to your account:

  • Your login and profile
  • All meals and their photos
  • All diary entries and daily notes
  • Your recipes, recipe conversations, and favorites
  • Weight history, saved foods, binder logs, and insights

This is permanent and cannot be undone. There’s no recovery window — once deleted, your data is gone.

Tip: Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription. App Store, Google Play, and web subscriptions are billed by the store, not by your KidneyPal account — cancel there first. See Subscription & Billing for the steps.

Privacy Policy & Terms

Both are also linked inside the app under Settings → Legal.

A Note on Medical Use

KidneyPal is an educational tracking tool, not a medical device. It doesn’t diagnose, treat, or replace advice from your nephrologist or dietitian. Always follow your healthcare team’s guidance.
